Infra red imaging is especially useful for heritage buildings. Infra red reveals issues that would otherwise be hidden. It enables the owner to find and fix the root cause of a problem and rather than waste effort by covering only the symptoms.
You can see in this IR image of a 1890's limestone cottage that a rising damp problem was revealed that was otherwise invisible. IR can detect minute changes of temperature, and reveals patterns of temperature can be expertly analysed to ascertain the exact cause of certain issues.
