We have tried to anticipate your questions but if your answer isn't here let us know!

How does the design process work?

Generally, design projects consist of three phases.

  1. Scope definition and conceptual design. The scope, budget and timeframe of the project are set out. The situation is thoroughly analysed and first ideas are floated. After we have found the best concept, first sketches, 3D images and drawings of the idea are generated.
  2. Detail design and documentation. The design is developed further and detailed in all aspects. At the end there will be a set of documents describing the design and idea in every aspect. The non tangible idea has been translated into a build-able object.
  3. Construction or production. The building or product becomes a reality. Some minor changes and last adjustments may be required - especially in heritage projects (which can on occasion offer up unforeseeable surprises!)

This is the 'standard' procedure, however we will tailor our service ton a job by job basis.

Aren't architects and designers very expensive?

Our fees are transparent and usually capped to an agreed percentage of the project budget. Our thorough design, procurement and tender processes often save our client more money than our service costs! We ensure that you are not overpaying trades, builders, authorities and consultants, whilst managing the project and walking with you throughout the whole process. We thrive on working with our clients to realise their dreams within their budget restraints. Clients are often surprised at the cost-saving, elegant solutions of our designs and are stoked that they can achieve their unique visions with basically the same money that they would have paid doing it all themselves.

Creative thinking is OK, what if the design is just not what I want?

Designers are experts in helping you think outside the box and look at things in different ways. Often, at the end of the process, the solution to your design vision may look different but better than you originally had in mind! We focus on functional, elegant solutions matched to your personal aesthetic and lifestyle. Abstraction will be part of the design process, but if the result is not right for you, it's back to the drawing board for us!
